Our History

The history of a church can never be confined to an account of the placement of a building at a particular time and place. It must also include a picture of its people, their feelings, and the reasons that caused the people to act and decide to build a new church. Milford Mill United Methodist Church traces its history back to 1953 as a part of the ever-changing mission and vision of Walbrook Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church. A dedicated group of Christians answered the call to serve the Lord in a growing community. On January 25, 1953, the Walbrook Memorial congregation voted unanimously to sponsor a new church to be located on the Dr. A. I. Bell property on Milford Mill Road opposite the Silver Creek development. The property included 4 ½ acres, a stone ranch-style home with a breezeway and attached garage.

The first service at Milford Mill Evangelical United Brethren Church was held on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 1953.

At the Annual Congregation meeting in December of 1960, a vote was taken to allow the Church Council to build a new church sanctuary and additional educational facilities. The E.U.B. and Methodist Churches merged in 1968, and Milford Mill United Methodist Church assumed its membership in the Baltimore Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. Although many changes have taken place in society and the community since the founding of the church in 1953, the challenge for Milford Mill Church remains the same. It is still a church that seeks to be the heart of the community. As it is affectionately called, Milford seeks to reflect the changing demographics of its community in the area.

Milford is now a multi-cultural and multi-generational congregation in a suburban setting with a beautiful campus consisting of a 250-seat sanctuary, a small chapel, a children’s development center, and a parsonage. We remain steadfast in our commitment to being a beacon of light and hope in our West Baltimore County community and helping transform lives through vital, celebrative worship, relevant faith development in discipleship, radical hospitality in fellowship, extravagant generosity in mission, and life-transforming faith-sharing and evangelism.

When you attend Milford Mill United Methodist Church, expect to have your needs met. We offer a wide variety of programs and activities to the membership and community at large. When you enter the doors of Milford, expect a blessing to be greeted by love and warmly received! Milford is blessed to have a dynamic preacher as a pastor.

As we reflect on over 65 years of ministry, we are grateful to God for all that has been accomplished, and we look forward with hope to the bright future that God has in store for us.
